(Trafalgar) Disinterred - 2006
(Trafalgar) Disinterred is a site specific installation that was presented in The Forest of Dean (commissioned by the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trust for ‘Reveal’, a 3 day night time event). The installation traced a number of underground mine paths of the Trafalgar Colliery in the Forest of Dean to form a 1km circular route over ground – delineated by 29 illuminated miners lights, signifying the 29 fatalities that occurred in the seams below. These were fixed to wooden posts whose size mirrored a range of human heights – the light placed at head height, the power pack at the chest. A 13 minute looped sound recording of footsteps following the over ground path was played back in a 24 track system. The audience experienced the installation by walking along a designated path through the work, to be surrounded by a route of light and sound.
