Shadowland

A sound installation that journeys from the years preceding the Khmer Rouge regime until after the Vietnamese occupation, Shadowland is a combination of sampled sounds from archived news footage, documentaries, interviews and propaganda films. The work begins with a silhouetted figure projected on the wall. As the score progresses, the shadow moves slowly to the soil scattered on the floor, rests and then returns.

Winner of The Engine Room International Sound Art Competition 2017.

Place Name

Two microphones, each one fixed on a floor stand and positioned in opposition to the other, have a reversal of function. Given a voice, both microphones read names out in unison. Each 'pair' of names is the same person - one being their original 'birth' name and the other their new 'anglicised' name. As the microphones simultaneously list both names of prominent cultural figures, the installation traces different accents from around the globe.

14.20

'14.20' is part of an on-going investigation into the non-specific imagery we see when travelling at high speed and is the first work in this series to use moving image. Capturing aspects of transition, (dis)location, searching, defining, (dis)connection and projection, these works serve to reinforce many of the key themes that run through my projects.
