'Fugue', single screen video, 2.46 minutes, 2007 (still).

'Fugue'

'Fugue' explores the use of fog as a dramatic signifier and its ability to generate a non-specificity of place. Highlighting a rich cinematic and literary history, fog can combine a sense of fantasy and reality - manifesting both the psychologically and physically hidden and/or unknown. Frequently used within a narrative to indicate a split in personality, fog can reference the divided self, projected identity and schizophrenia. Presenting a wide panorama of reflected imagery in a landscape thick with fog - generating sequences reminiscent of psychiatric 'ink blot' tests, this single screen work continues to embellish these notions further in the use of a commissioned score combining an echoic piano sequence with low ambient noise.
